The Aston Martin Lagonda – Reborn

Aston Martin Lagonda

Aston Martin Lagonda

There’s a buzz in the pitt lanes, there’s a buzz in the bars and there’s a buzz on the streets – Aston Martin has announced it will resurrect the legendary Lagonda badge for a limited run super saloon due out in 2015.

So what do we know? At this stage not a lot. Top Gear have said that it will be a four-door and it will start production early 2015. The word is it will be the fastest of fast cars – not that when you get your hands on it you would dream of going faster than the speed limit right? Perhaps book in some track time at Wakefield Park Raceway or you’ll never get to feel those g-forces you’ve been pinning for all year.

One issue you are going to have is the new Aston Martin it is only being offered for the Middle East market and will be a limited run. So you may have to pull some pretty big favours if you want to get your hands on what is likely to be the car of the year 2015.

Our understanding is the car will be built on the firm’s rather ageing VH chassis architecture and will take its stylisation from the wedge-shaped Lagonda of 1976 – an absolute classic of its day. It’s going to be the auto design equivalent of wearing flares. Could it be any cooler? You are definitely going to need sunglasses for this one.

Expect a hand-built body with the new 565bhp V12 as seen in the Vanquish and V12 Vantage S. You can expect a similar acceleration time to Aston’s other four-door supercar, the Rapide S, which does 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds. Ear plugs for the oldies… like a Crown escort it is going to have some big va va va voom.

yvette-elite-escort6Currently purchases are only by invitation and you can expect a considerable whack of cash “commensurate with the car’s exclusivity”. For sure that is going to mean a lot of dough for this “exceptional automotive art.”

The 1970s are coming back.

P.S. If you can’t decide which Crown Escort to accompany you on your first spin of the Aston Martin Lagonds’s wheels then may we suggest Yvette. Not only is she very fast so to speak but she loves power and handsome things. It sounds like a perfect fit!
